...sixty pounds of green tomatoes?
Chutney? Pickles? Please help.
With the rain we've had, we can't hang the vines upside down and hope the fruit will ripen. The vines are rotten, and the fruit must be rescued tomorrow. 60 pounds is a conservative estimate on what's out there. Yes, some of them will be fried! (I have some really great butter.)
In one of the Little House on the Prairie books, didn't Ma make some sort of pie with lots of leftover green tomatoes? It's been awhile since I read this, but I seem to remember Pa loved it. I don't know if she made it sweet or savory.
Or maybe I'm remembering totally wrong, which is totally possible.

Wow...that's a lot of green tomatoes! I wish I were there with you. I used to make a great green tomato bread but that wouldn't use up that many. During years we've had early frosts I found an amazing number actually turned red----if you turn them upside down----if it looks like a little white cross on the bottom---they will eventually ripen.....
thanks for your wonderful comments....
