So I was outside moving the 3' x 10' mound of dirt I made in the garden and had begun to double-dig the whole area instead when 5-year-old E came out chattering about digging and our Farm . She said we'll have chickens and she'll have to learn how to be with them, and we talked about 4H and learning how to be a young farmer, and then she told us she's going to move away to her own farm just a couple of days after the birthday when she becomes a grown-up. Then she decided to help me with my digging, and she told me that our farm is not the Curious Farm yet -- it's the "We're Learning to Be a Farm " Farm. After we earn our Curious Farm by digging hard, we can call it the Curious Farm, but not until then. I agreed with her because she is more wise than I am, and I was pleased and energized by her thoughts and feelings. After feeding the imaginary goats, she went off to sing to the real blueberry bushes and raspberry vines. I continued digging, and dug for two hours. She helped me.
